History of Marian Eldridge Award

Comments on lead applicants 2009

NFAW has administered the Award since it was established in 1998 with a donation from Ken Eldridge in memory of Marian Eldridge, a Canberra writer. In the last few years the National Library of Australia, the Creative Writing Program at the University of Canberra and the ACT Cultural Council have all partnered with NFAW and each nominated one person for the judging panel.

Other Award winners have been Julie Simpson , Rose de Angelis, Elanna Herbert, Annah Faulkner, Caroline Lee, Nina Cullen, Glenys Osborne and Jennifer Mills. These women and those commended each year have spoken of the importance of the recognition and validation which the Award has given, and its great value in encouraging women’s writing
